A ceiling is often the observation surface rather than the source location.
DOWNTOWN SEATTLE / GUIDE
Ceiling Leak Record
Photograph from a stable dry position and note light fixtures, sagging, sound, smell, and access restrictions.
PRACTICAL GUIDE
Track the wet area over time
Document the first stain, expanding edge, drip point, material condition, upper spaces, weather, and fixture timing.
Do not puncture, remove, press, or stand beneath unstable material.
Do not turn a stain into a source
Use a fixed reference point to mark the moisture edge, direction, time, and affected finish from a safe position. Add relevant ordinary use, weather, recent work, and reports from authorized adjacent spaces without opening the ceiling or asserting which concealed system failed.
Carry the same record into plumbing, roof, enclosure, mechanical, cleanup, and finish decisions.
